Terms & Conditions
At Stamford Modern, we take pride in the quality of our furniture, custom fabrication, and the vintage pieces we offer. Because our collection includes custom-made furniture, Stamford Modern Signature Originals, and vintage furniture, different terms may apply depending on the nature of the purchase.
By placing an order, approving an estimate, submitting a deposit or other payment, or accepting delivery, the client acknowledges and agrees to the following Terms & Conditions.
Custom Orders
All custom and made-to-order purchases are final sale.
Once a custom order has been approved and production has begun, it cannot be cancelled, returned, or exchanged. This includes custom furniture, modifications, upholstery, refinishing, fabrication, and other work performed to a client's specifications.
Custom furniture is made by hand and often incorporates natural materials. Minor variations in dimensions, wood grain, color, texture, finish, stone, metal, upholstery, and other natural or handmade materials are inherent to the nature of the product and are not considered defects.
Custom Order Approvals & Changes
Clients are responsible for reviewing and approving all applicable specifications before production, including dimensions, drawings, materials, finishes, fabrics, hardware, and other design details.
Once approved, these specifications will serve as the basis for production.
Changes requested after approval may result in additional costs and changes to the anticipated production schedule. Stamford Modern will communicate any material additional charges for client approval before proceeding with the requested change.
If a change requires work that has already been completed to be altered, remade, refinished, reupholstered, or otherwise modified, the client will be responsible for the associated additional costs.
Measurements & Site Conditions
Unless Stamford Modern has specifically agreed in writing to perform a site measurement or site verification, the client is responsible for confirming that all dimensions provided to Stamford Modern are accurate.
The client is also responsible for confirming that the completed furniture can reasonably be delivered into its intended location, including through doorways, hallways, elevators, stairways, and other access points.
Stamford Modern is not responsible for problems resulting from inaccurate client-provided measurements or inadequate site access.
Modifications, additional handling, redelivery, disassembly, reassembly, hoisting, or other services required because of site conditions may result in additional charges.
Client-Supplied Materials
When a client supplies fabric, leather, hardware, stone, or other materials for use in a project, the client is responsible for ensuring that the material is appropriate for its intended application and that sufficient quantities are supplied.
Stamford Modern is not responsible for manufacturing defects, shortages, dye-lot variations, irregularities, durability, fading, performance, or other issues associated with materials supplied by the client.
If additional material is required because of a shortage, defect, pattern repeat, material irregularity, or other condition outside Stamford Modern's control, additional costs or production time may apply.
Deposits & Payment
Custom and made-to-order purchases require payment in full before production can begin, unless alternative payment terms have been expressly agreed to in writing by Stamford Modern.
Once production has begun, payments for custom and made-to-order items are non-refundable.
For any order where Stamford Modern has agreed in writing to accept a deposit or installment payment structure, the remaining balance must be paid in full prior to delivery, shipment, pickup, or release of the completed item.
Stamford Modern reserves the right to withhold production, delivery, shipment, pickup, or release of any merchandise until all outstanding balances associated with the order have been paid in full.
Lead Times
Production and delivery lead times provided by Stamford Modern are estimates rather than guaranteed completion dates unless expressly stated otherwise in writing.
Lead times may be affected by material availability, client approvals, vendor schedules, fabrication requirements, shipping delays, supply-chain interruptions, or other circumstances outside Stamford Modern's reasonable control.
Stamford Modern will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes to anticipated completion dates.
A delay in an estimated completion or delivery date does not constitute grounds for cancellation of a custom order or refund of a deposit once production has begun.
One-Year Workmanship Warranty
Stamford Modern provides a one-year workmanship warranty exclusively on Custom Items and Stamford Modern Signature Originals.
The one-year warranty period begins on the date the item is first delivered by or on behalf of Stamford Modern, whether delivery is made directly to the client or to a receiver, warehouse, storage facility, designer, contractor, or other third party designated by or acting on behalf of the client. Delivery to such a designated party will be considered delivery to the client for purposes of determining the commencement of the warranty period.
This warranty covers structural or functional failure resulting directly from Stamford Modern's workmanship under normal residential use. Examples may include failure of joinery, construction, fabrication, or other components manufactured or assembled by Stamford Modern.
For a valid warranty claim, Stamford Modern's obligation will be limited, at its discretion, to repairing or correcting the workmanship-related issue.
The warranty is intended to cover an actual failure of Stamford Modern's workmanship. It does not cover cosmetic conditions or changes in appearance, including scratches, dents, stains, fading, discoloration, finish wear, fabric wear, variations in color or grain, patina, or other normal signs of use and aging.
The warranty also does not cover damage or deterioration resulting from misuse, accidents, improper cleaning or care, moving, storage, excessive moisture or dryness, environmental conditions, exposure to sunlight, normal wear and tear, or repairs or modifications performed by others.
Natural movement, expansion, contraction, checking, color variation, grain variation, patina, and other characteristics associated with natural materials are not considered defects in workmanship unless they result from a covered structural or functional failure.
Warranty claims must be reported to Stamford Modern within the applicable warranty period and should include photographs and a description of the issue. Stamford Modern may request an opportunity to inspect the item before determining whether the issue is covered.
Vintage Furniture
Vintage furniture is sold with the understanding that age, previous use, restoration history, variations, repairs, patina, and signs of age are inherent characteristics of vintage pieces and are not necessarily considered defects.
Stamford Modern makes reasonable efforts to accurately represent the condition and character of its vintage furniture through descriptions, photographs, and other information available at the time of sale.
Clients should inspect vintage purchases promptly upon delivery. Any concerns regarding the condition of a vintage item must be reported to Stamford Modern within 48 hours of delivery.
After this 48-hour inspection period, the sale becomes final, subject to any rights that cannot legally be waived or limited.
Differences resulting from lighting, photography, monitor settings, natural materials, restoration history, or the inherent character of vintage furniture are not by themselves considered defects.
Shipping & Delivery
Stamford Modern works with professional third-party carriers and shipping companies to facilitate delivery when requested.
Once an item is in the possession of an independent third-party carrier, transportation and handling are performed by that carrier. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Stamford Modern is not responsible for loss or damage caused by an independent shipping provider during transportation or handling.
Should an issue occur during shipping, Stamford Modern will make reasonable efforts to assist the client in documenting the issue and communicating or mediating a claim with the shipping company.
Any shipping claim remains subject to the carrier's terms, insurance coverage, limitations, and claims procedures.
Clients should inspect all items immediately upon delivery. Any visible damage should be noted with the carrier whenever possible and photographed and reported promptly to Stamford Modern so that the issue can be properly documented.
Clients should retain all packaging when shipping damage is suspected until the carrier or Stamford Modern confirms that it may be discarded.
Delivery Access
The client is responsible for ensuring that the delivery location is accessible and ready to receive the furniture.
Unless specifically included in the delivery quote, special services such as hoisting, stair carries, disassembly, reassembly, installation, removal of doors or fixtures, storage, or additional delivery attempts may result in additional charges.
If delivery cannot be completed because of inaccurate measurements, restricted access, an unavailable recipient, site conditions, or other circumstances outside Stamford Modern's control, the client may be responsible for additional delivery, handling, and storage costs.
Storage
Once a completed order is ready for delivery or pickup, Stamford Modern will notify the client.
Clients are expected to arrange delivery or pickup within a reasonable period following notification.
If an item cannot be delivered or collected because of circumstances attributable to the client, Stamford Modern reserves the right to charge reasonable storage fees after providing notice to the client.
Any applicable storage charges must be paid before the merchandise is released.
Care & Maintenance
Stamford Modern furniture is made and/or restored using high-quality materials and finishes. Proper care will help preserve the appearance and integrity of your piece over time.
Wood & Finished Surfaces
Dust regularly with a clean, soft, dry cloth. For routine cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth followed immediately by a dry cloth.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, alcohol-based products, silicone polishes, and household cleaning sprays unless specifically recommended for the finish.
Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from moisture, heat, and spills. Spills should be wiped up promptly and should not be allowed to sit on finished surfaces.
Wood is a natural material and may expand, contract, or develop subtle variations over time. Avoid placing furniture in areas subject to excessive moisture, extreme dryness, significant temperature changes, or prolonged direct sunlight.
Upholstery
Regularly vacuum upholstery using a soft upholstery attachment. Avoid aggressive rubbing or household cleaning products.
Spills should be blotted promptly with a clean, absorbent cloth rather than rubbed.
Cleaning methods vary depending on the fabric or leather used, and clients should follow the care instructions provided by the textile or leather manufacturer.
Professional upholstery cleaning is recommended when deeper cleaning is necessary.
Metal, Glass & Stone
Clean metal, glass, stone, and other specialty surfaces using products appropriate for the specific material. Avoid abrasive pads or cleaners that may scratch, etch, discolor, or otherwise damage the surface.
Natural stone may be porous and susceptible to staining or etching. Spills should be cleaned promptly, particularly liquids containing acids, oils, alcohol, or other substances that may affect the stone.
General Use
Furniture should be used only for its intended purpose.
Avoid dragging furniture when moving it, sitting or standing on surfaces not designed for seating, or placing excessive weight on furniture components.
Furniture should be lifted and moved carefully, preferably by professional furniture handlers when appropriate.
Periodic inspection of hardware, glides, fasteners, and other functional components is recommended, particularly for furniture that is moved or used frequently.
Natural Materials & Aging
Wood, leather, stone, metal, and other natural materials will naturally change in appearance over time.
Variations in grain, color, texture, patina, veining, oxidation, and other characteristics are inherent to these materials and contribute to the individual character of each piece.
Normal wear, fading, patina, minor movement of natural materials, and other cosmetic changes resulting from age, use, or environmental conditions are not considered defects in workmanship.
Warranty & Care
Damage resulting from improper cleaning, misuse, accidents, excessive moisture or dryness, environmental conditions, improper storage or handling, moving, or failure to properly care for the furniture is not covered by Stamford Modern's workmanship warranty.
For questions regarding the appropriate care of a Stamford Modern Custom Item or Signature Original, clients should contact Stamford Modern before applying cleaning, polishing, conditioning, repair, or refinishing products.
Limitation of Responsibility
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Stamford Modern is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses resulting from the use, movement, storage, transportation, or inability to use furniture purchased from Stamford Modern.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict, or waive any consumer right or remedy that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Agreement to Terms
By placing an order, approving an estimate or proposal, submitting a deposit or other payment, authorizing production, or accepting delivery from Stamford Modern, the client acknowledges that they have reviewed and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
If an estimate, proposal, invoice, order confirmation, or other written agreement contains terms specific to a particular order, those terms will apply to that order together with these Terms & Conditions.
Stamford Modern reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The terms applicable to an order will be those in effect at the time the order is accepted, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
